REPORTS: Eradicating Polio

In-country Case Studies on the Final Phase of Polio Eradication

ACTION’s new polio case studies report makes the case for continued, renewed, and additional commitment to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) by taking stock of the polio situation and presenting country case studies that show the nuances of the eradication challenge. The story of the world coming together to end polio is one of extraordinary hope. Read about what is happening in Nigeria, Pakistan, and Papua New Guinea to cross the finish line and why now is the time for a renewed investment in a polio-free world.

On October 18, 2022, Germany co-hosted a polio pledging moment that secured US$2.6 billion in funding to implement the GPEI’s 2022–2026 strategy to eradicate polio. The total cost of the strategy implementation is US$4.8 billion, an investment which, over the next 5 years, may save $33.1 billion by 2100, while ensuring no child is ever paralyzed by polio again.
