Rev. Dr. Peter Bujari

Executive Director, Health Promotion Tanzania (HDT)

Rev. Dr. Peter Bujari is a minister and public health specialist with an expertise in business administration. He is a results-driven, hard-working development leader with 15 years of international and national experience in organisational management, policy analysis and advocacy, systems change advocacy, and monitoring and evaluation. Dr. Bujari has also worked as a public health consultant to a number of national and international institutions.

Dr. Bujari has been an outspoken advocate for advancing public health in Tanzania. Beginning his advocacy career in 2004, he focused on HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria and successfully advocated for mainstreaming HIV in poverty reduction plans. He later spearheaded the formation and became the first chair of the Tanzania AIDS Forum, a network of CSOs advocating for HIV in Tanzania that constructively shaped HIV national response between 2007 and 2012. Dr. Bujari represented the CSOs in the Tanzania National Mechanism, a prototype of the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria Country Coordinating Mechanisms (GF-CCM) in other countries, before he left the forum to be a member of Global Fund oversight committee on an expert basis.

In recent years, Dr. Bujari has focused his secular work on RMNCAH and nutrition and is spearheading the formation of a “Social pact” that is supporting the government of Tanzania’s ambition to reach universal health coverage by 2020.
